Day One 8-10-2009

Day One (8-10-2009)

What an exciting first day in this world. Baby Kate Isabella was born at 1:43 am after a few pushes from Momma. There was no complication during the delivery. Shortly after Baby Kate was born the Doctors discovered that she was having complications with her breathing. Soon after we discovered that she was going to have a take a little trip down to Spokane. I (Jacob) left my poor wife at Mt. Carmel and headed south for Scared Heart at 4:30 am. Med-Star arrived at Mt. Carmel and got Baby Kate all loaded up and took her on her first helicopter ride. I arrived at Scared Heart at 6:00 a.m. and busted down the doors of the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) only to find that I beat Baby Kate down here. Back to Momma, Hallie was doing good, getting rested and eating some food to keep up her energy. She was slowly counting down the seconds until her discharge. After a mornings rest she was discharged at 10:30 and headed down to join Daddy and Baby Kate. Back to daddy….After a few short hyperventilating breaths the front desk Nurse told me to go have a seat in the waiting room and they would come get me when she arrived. Baby Kate arrived at Scared Heart without any complications and got settled into her room. She had a wonderful Doctor taking care of her (Dr. Yount) who happened to be scheduled to get off at 9:00 am, and didn’t leave until 1:00 pm. He said he wanted to make sure that Baby Kate was getting taken care of. Baby Kate had to have a catheter put into her umbilical cord. Through the catheter they were able to draw blood for testing and run her I.V. through. After all her test and blood work came back we found that she was in good health. Her problems appear to be immature or under developed lungs. We are waiting to see if the problem will fix itself, rather then give her help. Now it is a waiting game to see what the outcome will be and to watch for possible infection. At the end of the day Baby Kate was breathing better and not so stressed. She has a great support team and Nursing working on her and taking care of her. I wish I could say the same for the Doctor. Dr. Dipstick, as I like to call him, came and announced that our baby boy was doing fine and pretty much just read us the chart of the super wonderful Dr. Yount, so NO knew news as of tonight. Thank you for all the prayers and calls. I am heading to bed now 34 hours straight without any sleep.
